Tyre seller offers eye watering deal
Incentives to draw in prospective customers are familiar practice for most tyre dealers, but free onions with every car or truck tyre sold? One tyre seller in India has introduced such an offer, but he has more in mind than just selling more tyres.
Satnam Singh Gambhir is a tyre dealer in the Indian town of Sakchi, and lately he has given customers a five kilogramme bag of onions with every truck tyre purchased or a one kilogramme bag with every two passenger car radials. The onions are probably very well received but they’re no deal clincher – for Gambhir, the offer serves as a political protest.
DNA India reports that Gambhir is giving away onions with his tyres to protest against the Indian government’s failure to bring rising onion prices and the depreciating rupee under control. “We will continue the offer till Independence day and may extend it further depending on the government action to bring the price of onion down,” he said.
Gambhir also offered customers free onions in December 2010, again to demonstrate against rising onion prices.
