Pirelli sponsors Porsche 911 record
Porsche set a world record at the Silverstone Classic, as more than 1,000 911s took to the track in a parade to celebrate the model’s 50th anniversary. Pirelli sponsored the parade, as part of its Porsche Club Great Britain partnership agreement signed earlier this year, which stipulated that Pirelli will support Porsche Club GB financially and with tyres and on-event expertise. 1,208 Porsche 911s, which included an array of Carrera, GT, RS, RSR, Speedster, Targa and turbo variants, took part in the parade, which helped raise funds for national cancer charity, Hope for Tomorrow.
As well as sponsoring the Porsche 911 parade and supplying each participant with a special plaque, Pirelli also brought its F1 simulator and hospitality unit along to the annual three-day event. The firm ran a number of competitions with prizes including drive experience days at race circuits throughout the UK.
Pirelli UK managing director, Dominic Sandivasci, commented: “This year’s Silverstone Classic was bigger and better than ever, and we are pleased to have supported an event which brought joy to so many that attended this year’s event. Porsche Club GB did a truly outstanding job sourcing 1,208 variants of the 911, many of which where equipped with Pirelli tyres. The sight of so many 911s on the Silverstone circuit is a fitting tribute to the world’s most successful sports car, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with Porsche for the remainder of the 911’s golden anniversary.”
Nick Hine, chairman of Porsche Club GB, concluded: “A parade of 911 Porsche 911s on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit was always going to be an ambitious benchmark to achieve – so to have done so by such a significant margin is testament to the Club’s passion for all things Porsche. To have had Mark Porsche (the son of Butzi Porsche, the 911’s creator), on the front grid alongside Derek Bell MBE, David Piper, Richard Attwood and John Fitzpatrick was an amazing honour. I am genuinely humbled that Porsche Club GB’s endeavours have been enjoyed and appreciated by so many people worldwide. I hope that we delivered a fitting tribute to the legend that is the 911.”
