WheelRight offers pressure monitoring without TPMS
UK-based WheelRight is aiming to “revolutionise tyre management across the automotive sector”, with the launch of a tyre-monitoring system designed to help the transport industry save “billions of pounds each year”. According to the company, the product enables critical tyre characteristics to be sent to a mobile phone within seconds, without the driver having to leave the vehicle and without the need for sensors to be fitted to the vehicle.
WheelRight representatives make the point that a 10 per cent under-inflation of a tyre will result in a two per cent increase in the use of fuel and will decrease the life of a tyre by between eight and 15 per cent. Already saving hundreds of thousands of pounds for customers, the WheelRight product will help boost environmental credentials, improve fuel economy and cut CO2 emissions dramatically across the globe.
The system bases its calculations on a sensory pad that is embedded into the road at a point where vehicles enter or leave a facility. As a vehicle drives over it ‘in-motion’ monitoring of tyre pressures and temperatures as well as vehicle weight and axle load can be analysed and delivered directly to the driver. As it is driven over, the product removes the need to complete time consuming manual checks, with the associated risks of valve damage and operator safety. For commercial users a report/work instruction is emailed directly to the depot.
