Supertracker-supported Subaru Legacy completes Help4Heroes rally
Supertracker has given wheel alignment support to West Midlands father and son driving team, Keith and Dylan Evans and their Subaru Legacy Estate in the annual Help4Heroes 4×4 European Rally 2013. The team was awarded Total Off-Road Magazine’s 'Best Non Land Rover performance', having been primed by Supertracker, which set up and adjusted the wheel alignment and sourced special Landsail tyres for the 14-day trip across a number of European countries, visiting numerous battle locations and memorial sites from WW1 and WW2.
Keith Evans said: “During the rally there was a number of off road trials and experiences and we managed to take part in most tests, pitting ourselves against much better equipped 4×4’s including many Land Rovers. There is no doubt that we were able to perform so well due to the expert attention to our vehicle by Supertracker’s chief technician – Jerry Barker. In fact we were extremely surprised that our Subaru appeared to perform way above its supposed limitations for a road car.
“The rally was so intense and demanding that at times neither Dylan nor I knew which country we were in and one day we drove through four countries. For me, visiting the various sites concerning the final push to liberate Europe after D-Day was extremely moving and informative.”
This was the first time Dylan Evans had navigated on such a major scale and apart from ‘never putting a foot wrong’ he thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He adds, “Obviously at school we are taught about these two significant wars but to actually visit the sites was mind blowing. Like a massive history lesson in real time!”
Keith said his 10-year old Subaru Legacy (with 99,000 miles on the clock) performed with distinction, travelling a total of 3,316 miles door-to-door and hope to raise around £1,500 in sponsorship for the Help4Heroes fund. On their return, Jerry Barker rechecked the vehicles tracking which he found to be still impressively accurate given the harsh conditions of the rally which included driving on gravel tracks and around quarries. He says, “I am amazed what the Subaru was able to achieve during the rally which just goes to show that with professional wheel alignment, anything is possible.”
Keith and Dylan hope to take part in next year’s rally but this time in a more suitable off roader.
