Pirelli sponsors Porsche 911 parade at Silverstone Classic
Pirelli is back at Silverstone this weekend following its recent Formula One visits for the Silverstone Classic. The manufacturer will sponsor a Porsche 911 parade of the GP circuit on Sunday 28 July to commemorate its 60th anniversary, having signed a minimum three-year deal to sponsor Porsche Club Great Britain. Pirelli’s financial support of Porsche Club GB, as well as providing it with tyres and on-event technical expertise, are part of this agreement, makes it the official tyre supplier to the 16-race Porsche Club Championship series for production-based Porsches. Pirelli will also bring its F1 simulator and hospitality unit to the annual three-day event, from which it will run a number of competitions with prizes including drive experience days at Thruxton race circuit.
Pirelli UK managing director, Dominic Sandivasci, commented: “We are delighted to support Porsche Club GB’s world record attempt of the greatest number of Porsche 911s in one single parade. It is a fitting tribute to a truly spectacular car and I would like to congratulate the team at Porsche Club GB for sourcing so many variants of the 911. Pirelli has enjoyed a successful relationship with Porsche over the years, delivering high performance tyres to over 30 different models. A number of the 911s taking part in the parade will be shod with Pirelli tyres and I only hope that the fantastic weather we’ve been having will hold until the parade on Sunday.”
Nick Hine, chairman of Porsche Club GB, added: “On behalf of Porsche Club Great Britain, we are delighted to have Pirelli, as the Club’s tyre sponsor. Synonymous with providing quality, high performance tyres, Pirelli is the perfect fit for all Porsche models. Pirelli is also generously sponsoring the Club’s National Concours in 2013, by providing a set of four new Pirelli tyres for the 911 judged to be ‘Best in Class’ at PCGB’s National Concours at Silverstone Classic. Here’s to a great Porsche Club/Pirelli weekend – and may the sun continue to shine.”
Now in its 23rd year, the Silverstone Classic is the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival which attracts motorsport fans and enthusiasts from across the world. This year’s event will be centred round the golden anniversary of the Porsche 911; the 911 was introduced to the public at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show. Each car that takes place in the parade will be given a special plaque from Pirelli to commemorate the occasion.
