Is Carlisle tiring of tyres?
Carlisle Companies, parent of Carlisle Transportation Products, says it will investigate “strategic alternatives” for its tyre and wheel subsidiary following quarter results punctuated by poor sales for the business unit.
Despite expressing his optimism for the Carlisle Transportation Products’ future, in a 23 July press release Carlisle chairman, president and chief executive officer David Roberts described the business as “not core to Carlisle’s growth strategy.” He added the parent company has therefore retained SunTrust Robinson Humphrey as financial advisor to assist in evaluating the aforementioned strategic alternatives for the business unit. US trade publication Tire Review opines that these “alternatives” include the potential sale of the business unit, which includes its power transmission belting business.
Carlisle Companies began trading in 1917 as Carlisle Tire & Rubber Co. Over the decades, the firm shrunk its tyre portfolio to small OTR, industrial, specialty and lawn/garden tyres, and grew in other business areas.
