Small fire at Pirelli’s Carlisle tyre factory
A small fire at Pirelli’s Carlisle tyre factory stopped production for around 90 minutes on Monday 3 June. Staff were evacuated in line with safety procedures. Firefighters attended shortly after the blaze broke out at the Dalston Road site at around 18:30.
According to company representatives, local news reports suggesting that the fire was caused by the overheating of a fan which was being used to safely remove air potentially contaminated with asbestos fibres from the factory’s Banbury block are correct.
Although production did stop for a short time, Tyres & Accessories understands that the factory’s ability to meet orders is basically unaffected. Or in other words, there was more smoke than fire in this case.
