Reports: Michelin to build second tyre plant in Pirot, Serbia

Local officials are promoting Michelin's plans to build a second tyre production plant in Pirot, Serbia, according to two local news sources. Michelin already owns Tigar, a tyre factory in Pirot. The reports suggest the news factory would employ about 700 workers and cite local mayor Vladan Vasic as saying this is the greatest investment in the history of the city of Pirot.

”Construction of the factory should start in August. According to the announcement, majority of the production will go to the European, African, and Asian market, and to the countries of the former Soviet Union. Investment, known as “Big Tiger”, was announced three years ago and is worth 170 million euros”, Vasic added in a statement that appears to suggest the work is not new but rather a continuation of Michelin’s existing plans with Tigar in Serbia, which tyrepress.com reported on in April.
