Yokohama a technical partner for latest Gran Turismo
Many tyre makers are involved in motorsport activities, and a racetrack presence can indeed do wonders for a brand’s public profile. Yokohama Rubber has announced its participation in a technical partnership with a difference – it recently became the first tyre manufacturer to serve as official technical partner to the popular ‘Gran Turismo’ series of motor racing video games. Yokohama lent its expertise to the latest version, Gran Turismo 6.
Realism is a key feature of the Gran Turismo series, and order to develop the game’s new physics engine, which reproduces car behaviour, Yokohama provided tyre data for the simulation. Through its participation, Yokohama says it “hopes to boost its global recognition across generations of automotive enthusiasts.”
As of March 2013, the “Gran Turismo” series had recorded sales 70 million units around the world, and has been highly evaluated not only by avid gamers but by professional race drivers, automotive-related companies and more. The latest version, Gran Turismo 6, was unveiled at the Silverstone Circuit on 15 May.
