Yokohama to begin UK motorsport season at Silverstone
Yokohama will begin its 2013 UK motorsport season at Silverstone, when four different series will utilise the Japanese brand as control tyres. The first round of the new BRDC Formula 4 series will be joined by the Aerial Atom Cup, the Sports 2000 series and Caterham Graduates.
BRDC Formula 4 uses identical single seat race cars developed by Ralph Firman’s RFR, using Cosworth engines and Yokohama Advan racing tyres. The series is based on teams or individual drivers running cars themselves and thanks to the identical nature of the cars, the emphasis will be put on technical knowledge and driving ability, with teams able to change a host of suspension settings to achieve the best performance. All cars will use the same specification of Advan racing slick and wet tyres and with the full grid allocation of 24 cars sold before the car was officially launched.
Another series featuring Yokohama control tyres making its debut at Silverstone this weekend will be the Atom Cup, organised for race-specific versions of the Aerial Atom. In response to demand from Atom enthusiasts, the series has been created around a bespoke competition version of the car to allow owners and drivers to take to the track.
The Caterham Graduates and Sports 2000 series will also be on track at Silverstone, both having used Yokohama control tyres for several seasons.
