Filling stations facing "a tsunami of crime" – PRA
"Independent petrol forecourts are experiencing a rise in crime rates yet the support of local police forces can greatly differ" said Brian Madderson, Petrol Retailers' Association (PRA) Chairman.
In a letter to the Rt Hon Theresa May MP, Secretary of State for the Home Department, Mr Madderson addressed the rise in forecourt drive-offs, bulk fuel theft, shop-lifting and burglaries that PRA members are currently having to contend with.
The letter went on to address the alarming incident concerning a PRA member, Steve Jones, who has received a letter from lawyers representing a Woman Police Officer claiming he is personally responsible for injuries she alleges to have suffered during a night call to his site.
Madderson continued “The PRA believe such a case will have serious implications for all our members across the UK.
“Forecourt owners may feel deterred from making legitimate calls for police assistance during the current tsunami wave of crime at their businesses.”
