Black, round and nameless…
It’s reassuring to know that British motorists hold no monopoly when it comes to tyre cluelessness. Michelin Nordic recently commissioned a survey into the average Dane’s level of tyre knowledge – and the results were, to be honest, not very good.
According to the Michelin advertising slogan, the ‘right tyre changes everything’, and Michelin Nordic press officer Lotta Wrangle notes that having the correct tyres fitted to your car is one of the most important safety aspects while driving. Yet when asked what tyres they have fitted to their own family car, guess what half of the 1,000 surveyed Danish motorists replied? That’s right, nearly two-thirds of women and four out of every ten male drivers admitted to not knowing the tyre brand their own car was fitted with.
This tyre ignorance extended to tread depths. As is the case in the UK, passenger car tyres in Denmark must have at least 1.6 mm of tread in order to be legally used. Only known by 67 per cent of male and 37 per cent of female respondents were actually aware of this.
