Biaggi performs naval manoeuvres with Pirelli sport touring tyre
In a test reminiscent of a stunt pulled by Top Gear’s original Stig, but fortunately with a different end result, double Superbike World Champion and four-time 250cc World Champion Max Biaggi tested the braking qualities of Pirelli’s new Angel GT motorcycle tyre on the deck of an aircraft carrier.
Torrents of water were squirted across the flight deck of the Italian Navy’s latest carrier, the Cavour, as the Italian rider accelerated up to 100km/h (62mph) before slamming on the brakes. Pirelli says its new Angel GT sport touring tyre, developed for naked, super sport and touring bikes, allowed Biaggi to first lay down the bike’s entire power to the ground and then ensured an immediate stop on the wet asphalt.
This memorable test was arranged by Pirelli with the cooperation of Difesa Servizi SpA and the Italian Navy. A YouTube video of the event can be viewed here.
