NDI now supplying from new warehouse in China
Recently, Denmark-based wholesaler NDI decided to establish a warehouse in China near to where its Nordexx private brand is manufactured. From this warehouse the wholesaler will directly supply Nordexx-brand and other products to its European and international customers. Last week the first shipment of Nordexx tyres arrived in the new Qingdao warehouse, and NDI says it will have the full Nordexx range in stock there within three weeks.
“We now have the first tyres in stock in Qingdao,” NDI export manager Carsten Andersen told Tyres & Accessories. “Having stock in our own warehouse in China means we can supply tyres, including the Nordexx private brand, to European customers within six weeks of an order being placed. People ordering from China usually must wait three to four months before their tyres arrive.”
Andersen acknowledges that finding a good price for tyres in China is not particularly hard at the moment, but he points out that when customers typically order a container load direct from a tyre factory, they are restricted to ordering a whole container of not more than four or five different tyre sizes. “The warehouse in Qingdao offers much more flexibility,” he continues. “Customers can mix fifty or so different tyre sizes within the one container. Not only does this give customers the freedom to order exactly the sizes they want, the set up particularly helps customers who are not large enough to order a whole container of same-sized tyres direct from the factory. With the Qingdao warehouse, we can now offer flexibility together with good prices.”
The export manager adds that following the warehouse’s opening, NDI is targeting these smaller and mid-size customers, offering them a complete service. “People are sometimes afraid to buy in China, but not only can we supply a container in six weeks, we can also look after everything, such as duties – That’s a big job if you don’t know it well. We look forward to the opportunity to gain business in Europe.” The focus now, he says, is to build up good relationships with distributors in all European markets.
An in-depth interview with Carsten Andersen will be published in the April 2013 issue of Tyres & Accessories; turn to April’s international wholesale feature for more information.
