Leeds CC fits GT Radial winter tyres on Community Meals fleet
Leeds City Council fitted GT Radial’s Champiro WinterPro cold weather tyres to its Community Meals fleet this winter on the recommendation of its tyre partner, Earthmover Tyres. Thanks to the addition of seasonal rubber, the Council said its 16 Citroen Berlingos delivered more than 420 meals safely every day across the city, regardless of the inclement weather.
Jenny Major, supervisor for Leeds City Council’s Community Meals service, said: “Since the tyres were fitted across the fleet on 2 December we have made every single delivery, and even more impressively there has not been one recorded vehicle accident.
“The feedback from the drivers has been nothing short of positive, with the words ‘safe’ and ‘controllable’ often used, and many have said that there is noticeably less sliding. This is the first year we have operated with cold weather tyres on this particular fleet, and we will definitely continue to do so from here on in.”
“During one of our regular meetings we raised the importance of cold weather tyres and explained their attributes in detail, especially in terms of performance throughout the winter,” added Andy Smith, commercial director at Earthmover Tyres. “For a service as important as community meals the decision to use the tyres was made.
“We have a longstanding relationship with Giti Tire, manufacturers of GT Radial, and felt extremely comfortable recommending the Champiro WinterPro as we have experienced its performance in dry, wet, ice and snow conditions. The safety and delivery record since they were fitted speaks volumes for the brand.”
Leeds City Council’s Community Meals service has been delivering hot meals throughout the city for over 40 years, supporting elderly and vulnerable people to live independently in their own homes.
