Pirelli starts Romanian GP2 tyre production
Romanian news portal romania-insider.com stated on 21 February that Pirelli has begun the production of GP2 series racing tyres at its Slatina factory. Further details were not given, however the site notes that the Slatina factory, which is located 110 miles west of Bucharest, also produces GT series tyres.
Last November, Pirelli announced it would invest 105 million euros in the Slatina plant over a five-year period. This figure, supported with approximately 35 million euros in government aid, will reportedly be used to increase the size of the factory from 180,000 to 200,000 square metres, the number of employees by 500 to 3,500, and to lift production capacity from 8.5 million tyres per year to 10 million at the end of 2013 and 13 million by the end of 2017.
