Nokian adds to forestry range
Two new products, the Nordman Forest F and the Forest King F2, have been added to Nokian Heavy Tyres’ forestry range.
The Nordman Forest F forestry machinery tyre, released in February in an initial size 710/45-26.5 PR 20 fitment, is described by the Finnish manufacturer as a “new type of cost-effective solution for forestry.” Nokian says the tyre’s price and quality has been optimised without compromising on reliability or functionality.
“The new Nokian Nordman Forest F was born from customer demand,” comments Jarkko Heinämäki, product manager for Forestry Tyres at Nokian Heavy Tyres. “We wanted to introduce a tyre that would be easy and functional for customers to use when they need a spare tyre that works reliably under demanding conditions, or a competitive alternative for a forestry machine that is being overhauled. The Nokian Nordman Forest F answers this need.”
Cut and puncture resistance come courtesy of the purpose-designed compound used in the Nordman Forest F, while the tyre’s tread structure is also said to ensure high load-bearing capacity and good wear resistance. The tyre’s operating hours are optimised for used machines.
According to Nokian, development of the Nordman Forest F was based on the most popular product on the market, the Nokian Forest King F. The latter’s tread pattern has been found to be especially functional when used with tracks, and therefore Nokian ensured that the tracks and chains suited to this tyre are also compatible with the Nordman Forest F. The recommended rims and inner tubes for the Nordman Forest F are also the same as on the Forest King F.
Forest King F2
Long live the king. Nokian has launched the Forest King F2, a tyre it says provides tested, better track grip for demanding forestry work. During product development, the Finnish manufacturer paid particular attention to making the tyre work well with tracks.
The result? “The Nokian Forest King F2 offers perfect track support at every point, keeping the track links straight on the surface of the tyre,” opines Heinämäki. “The grip between the tyre and track has been improved by increasing the straight section of the ribs and the grooves on the centre part. Together with the shape of the shoulders, the new pattern improves support for the tracks and helps them stay on.”
Nokian reports that the high-grip pattern removes the need for the track does to be tensed, which reduces the stress placed upon the tyres and journal boxes. Especially under difficult conditions, this reduces the risk of breaking for both the tyres and journal boxes. The tyre’s puncture has also been further improved by increasing the material strength on the tyre shoulders, the manufacturer adds.
Entirely new tyre size
The first product in the Forest King F2 range to be released introduces a completely new forestry machine tyre size, 780/50-28.5 PR 24. The rim diameter has been expanded to 28.5 inches in order to match the increased pulling power of machines and to prevent the tyre from spinning on the rim. The increased tyre diameter allows for a high load-bearing capacity at similar inflation pressures and it improves the traction and off-road abilities of the machine. The new size is said to be a reliable solution for the heaviest forestry machines weighing over 20 tonnes.
