From 'so-called workers' to plant shareholders?
Recently the French government was told it can keep its “so-called workers” at Goodyear’s slated-for-closure Amiens Nord factory, but news out of France suggests these workers may be offered an opportunity to keep their jobs, independently of Titan International or anyone else. On 26 February the CGT (General Confederation of Labour) union proposed forming a workers’ holding company, making the approximately 1,250 plant workers shareholders in the Amiens Nord operation.
Mickaël Wamen, CGT union representative at the Amiens Nord plant, explained the concept as a reclamation of the tools of labour and the sales force behind the brand. He added that accountants worked for 15 days to produce a document that will be given to plant employees, and they will be asked to make a decision based upon this. “The plant will live no matter what,” Wamen stated
The union’s accountants describe the agricultural segment as one of Goodyear’s most lucrative.
