SMMT to focus on UK auto supply chain at forum
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has confirmed it will focus on the UK automotive supply chain at its Open Forum event, taking place on 21 March 2013 in the West Midlands. The first speaker session will focus on the Automotive Council’s achievements to date and work going forward to strengthen the supply chain as well as activities undertaken by government. Members of the Automotive Council's Technology Group and Supply Chain Group will highlight the progress being made by the two key workstreams.
The second half of the event will focus on the new business opportunities available to the automotive supply chain following the surge of investment during the last two years. The speaker session will include presentations from Mick Aiers, Purchasing Manager, General Motors and Andrew Wareing, General Manager – Purchasing, Nissan Europe, who will explore the vehicle manufacturers’ perspective, while Chris Gane, Managing Director, Caparo Materials Engineering will present the supplier viewpoint.
Commenting, Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive said, “2012 was a positive year for UK automotive, with sustained investment from global vehicle manufacturers, vehicle output at its highest since 2008, and industry breaking all-time export records for cars.”
