Infinity golfer qualifies for women’s tour
Infinity-sponsored golfer, Virginia Espejo, recently qualified for the Ladies European Tour 2013 during the LET 2013 qualifying school, which was held at Morocco’s Al Maaden Golf and Amelkis Golf clubs, in Marrakech.
The 141 woman field was split over the Al Maaden and Amelkis Resorts over the first four days, playing two rounds on each of the courses. After 72 holes, a cut at 60 plus ties preceded the fifth and final round on the Al Maaden Golf Resort to decide the top 30 players plus ties who qualify for full cards on offer for the 2013 Ladies European Tour.
On the 2nd day at Ms Espejo, from Madrid, who turned professional in March 2012 after completing a Mathematics degree at Mississippi University, fired a six under par 66 on the Al Maaden Course to lead the field by 2 shots.
Playing under sunny skies, Espejo reeled off eight birdies and two bogeys to reach 10 under par in the five-round marathon to determine playing categories for the 2013 Ladies European Tour season.
Despite a disappointing round of 75 on the 4th day Virginia finished in 22nd place for a 4 round total of 280 to qualify for the 5th and final round, where she shot a steady par 72 to improve her final position to 20th place to qualify for her full card for the Ladies European Tour for 2013.
Espejo said: “I am extremely happy about getting my Ladies European Tour card for next year. This is something that I had only dreamt of and I can’t believe it is happening. I want to thank Infinity Tyres and Al Dobowi for all their support. I think that their belief in me helped me believe in myself a little more”.
Clive Mansfield, sales manager for Infinity Tyres, stated: “Virginia is a great player. Everyone at Infinity is extremely happy for her and we hope that with our support, she will continue to perform well, and that we will see Virginia make good progress in her professional golf career and make a great impression on the Ladies European Tour in 2013”.
