Growth to 10% expected for India’s tyre industry in 2012-13
A small decrease Indian heavy vehicle production was offset by a substantial rise in the light commercial vehicle segment; heavy commercial vehicle production decreased three per cent year-on-year in 2011-12 while light commercial vehicle production rose 30 per cent during this period. Passenger car production remained stable, motorcycle production increased five per cent and scooter production 25 per cent. Agricultural segment production rose two per cent year-on-year.
According to MRF, India’s tyre industry currently provides direct and indirect employment to one million people including dealers, retreaders and truck operators.
