Yokohama previews Advan Sport V105 in Macau
The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. has previewed the February 2013 launch of its Advan Sport V105. Speaking alongside the Macau Grand Prix, Yokohama Rubber Group president Hikomitsu Noji explained that the tyre will replace its V103 predecessor and has been developed through experience garnered in motorsport.
When it is formally launched into the replacement market next year, the new tyre will be available in 36 sizes from 205/55R16 91V MO to 255/30ZR20 (92Y), including 10 sizes already fitted as original equipment. According to the company, Yokohama will gradually expand the range of available sizes.
Based on the company’s Advan Sport V103 global flagship tyre, which is factory-equipped on performance cars including model from Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche and Bentley, the V105 is described as an evolution in tyre design, offering a premium segment solution to demand for “higher speed, higher comfort.”
With Yokohama’s Nurburgring, Germany, development operation said to have been central to the new product’s development. It is not surprise that there has been a certain motorsport influence in the production of the latest tyre. Features including structure, tread pattern and compound, have all been enhanced from the previous model (the V103) and all tip their hats to motorsport involvement.
To improve steering stability, a new “Matrix Body Ply Structure” was developed employing technology fostered through participation in world motorsports. According to the company, weight was reduced while rigidity was maintained, producing more agile handling and more comfortable ride, although this upgrade is not available on all sizes in the range. Meanwhile the asymmetrical, non-directional tread pattern – inside for enhanced performance on wet surfaces, outside for dry – features a new compound created to provide exceptional grip, and a new mound profile precisely controlling block ground contact pressure, yield even stronger dry and wet grip.
Asymmetrical pitch variations applied to the inside and outside of the tread pattern have been included to keep noise to a minimum.
