Yokohama celebrates three decades as Macau Grand Prix tyre supplier
Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., is to supply Advan racing tyres to the 59th Macau Grand Prix which will take place in Macau (China) from 15-18 November. Doing so for the 2012 event represents the 30th consecutive year that Yokohama has been sole tyre supplier. The final rounds of the 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and GT ASIA will be staged concurrently. Yokohama also supplies tyres to these series.
Known throughout the world, the Macau Grand Prix is run on public roadways in the central area of Macau. Yokohama has been the supplier of control tyres since 1983 when Formula 3 vehicles meeting international regulations were adopted.
Formula 3 has traditionally been a stepping-stone to Formula 1 and many who performed well in it are now found among the elite Formula 1 drivers. This year 30 drivers who finished in top positions in various Formula 3 championships will participate.
As far as the WTCC is concerned, Yokohama earlier in the year Yokohama said it will supply tyres for the series through to at least 2015, meaning 10 consecutive years.
Alongside these two series which are well known in the west, GT ASIA is an international competition held in Japan, Malaysia and Macau for primarily FIA GT3 regulation cars.
