Toyota recalls 2.8m cars
Toyota has recalled 2.8 million cars in order to fix faulty steering columns and water pumps on nine models worldwide. In the UK, the recall is estimated to affect 75,000 cars, including Avensis, Corolla and Prius models. Around 496,000 vehicles are estimated to be affected across Europe.
Toyota has recalled 14 million vehicles in recent years, most notably when an issue affecting the brake and gas pedals in US Prius models sprawled into a mass media story. Automotive analysts have suggested that Toyota has acted swiftly in this case, while the manufacturer states that it has not received any reports of crash or injury as a result of the faults.
