Pirelli becomes BSB Superstock sole supplier
Pirelli will increase its British Superbike presence from 2013 when the manufacturer becomes the sole tyre supplier and title sponsor for National Superstock 1000 and 600 classes. The Triumph Triple Challenge series will also use Pirelli control tyres. The brand has been the single tyre supplier in the Superbike and Supersport categories since 2008. Pirelli will offer the Diablo Supercorsa tyres for all three championships.
The national Superstock 1000 has become a natural stepping stone into British Superbikes, as Jon Kirkham and Danny Buchan have exemplified in recent years. Entries for each race weekend often exceed forty riders with bikes from every manufacturer regularly making up the top ten. The Superstock 1000 class will utilise the new Supercorsa SC 200 section rear tyre with a 200/55 – 17 profile and 120/70 – 17 front as used in the European Superstock series.
The Superstock 600 is a home to young talent, and with eleven different riders taking to the podium and six different winners, the 2012 championship was one of the most competitive in its history. Three riders entered the final round separated by just five points. The 2011 Superstock 600 champion, Keith Farmer clinched the 1000 championship for 2012, showing the progression of its competitors.
The Triumph Triple Challenge series’ entire grid is made up of Triumph Daytona 675 machines. Both the Challenge and Superstock 600 will use the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa 180/60-17 (SC2 compound) and 120/70 -17 front (SC1) as currently used in British Supersport and European Superstock.
The addition of these three exciting and competitive championships, alongside the Superbike, Supersport, Ducati 848 Challenge and the National Junior Cup sees Pirelli become the sole tyre supplier to all of the main classes in the MCE British Superbike paddock. The tyres for all three classes have been well proven in World Supersport and Superstock and will also benefit riders competing as wildcards in the World Superbike rounds in the UK.
Pirelli marketing manager Jim Worland commented, “We’re proud to increase Pirelli’s involvement in the British Superbike series to the Superstock and Triumph Triple Challenge classes for 2013, cementing our reputation as the premium tyre manufacturer in UK Racing. All three of these classes have produced fantastic racing and give great opportunities for young riders such as Keith Farmer to progress through the levels of British bike sport.
“Our Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tyres are well proven in the British Supersport Championship and we will be monitoring their progress through these other classes. Throughout the classes all the way up to BSB, crucially our tyres are available for any rider to buy for road racing or track days.”
