Luxury travel fleet to fit Michelin cold weather tyres
Ellisons Travel is fitting Michelin cold weather tyres to its entire fleet this winter. While the company has fitted winter tyres from a variety of manufacturers for more than 20 years, this is the first time it has selected Michelin cold weather tyres exclusively for its fleet of 42 cars and 25 luxury coaches and people carriers.
Mike Magowan, finance director for Ellisons Travel, explained: “The well-being of our customers and drivers is a paramount consideration for Ellisons Travel, so we want our vehicles to be fitted with the best possible equipment should the weather turn for the worse.
“We cannot afford to have our vehicles getting stuck or having tyre issues, so this year we have chosen to fit our fleet with Michelin tyres as we believe they can help us achieve a more reliable service and a safer journey for our clients.
“Michelin cold weather tyres are designed specifically for driving in conditions when temperatures fall below seven degrees Celsius, and the added grip could be the difference between reaching the destination safely or having a very unhappy customer.
“As a fleet, we would never consider using summer tyres throughout the winter, especially with the harsh and unpredictable weather that we have seen in recent years. The improved traction and stopping distance makes a phenomenal difference.”
Ellisons Travel, based in Merseyside, adopted a full Michelin tyre policy earlier this year after it saw its fleet of cars achieved 30 per cent extra mileage compared to its previous tyre of choice. The company, whose customers include airline pilots for both Thomson and Thomas Cook, specialises in luxury hospitality transport and began fitting a variety of Michelin Alpin tyres in October. It plans to have its fleet fully converted by late November.
