Hankook donates tyres in Hungary
As part of its corporate social responsibility program (CSR) in Hungary, Hankook has donated over 1300 winter tyres to three organisations – National Ambulance Service, National Disaster Relief and Hungarian Red Cross – to support their invaluable services to the community. This is the largest tyre donation ever in Hungary.
In 2012, Hankook launched an overarching CSR strategy in Hungary, where the company's European production facilities are located. The "Hankook Value Creation Program" is based on three pillars: Environment, Health & Education and Social Campaigning.
The program is a pioneer initiative aiming to highlight Hankook’s commitment to environmental and social issues, as well as to reinforce the company’s position as a responsible corporate citizen and member of the community in Hungary. Hankook has already taken several actions in the frame of the program, including the sponsorship of public festivals as well as regional and local donations. The launch of the “Tyre Donation Program” marks the next milestone in the implementation of the “Hankook Value Creation Program in Hungary”.
Explains Jin-Wook Choi, Hankook Tire President and COO for Europe; “The idea behind the “Tyre Donation Program” was to ‘Help those who help us’ – for example organisations with country-wide activities that provide important services to the society. As a tyre manufacturer, the biggest virtue we can offer are naturally our products, that is why we decided to launch the “Tyre Donation Program.”
When determining the program’s beneficiaries, Hankook looked for non-profit-organisations that operate nationwide and serve the society by carrying out tasks like life-saving, emergency service, and emergency transport. Based on these criteria, Hankook chose to donate their winter tyres to the Hungarian National Ambulance Service, National Disaster Relief and Hungarian Red Cross in 2012. By providing their tyres Hankook wants to support these organisations by making sure they can rely on safe tyres that keep them on the road when carrying out their invaluable duties – even in severe winter conditions.
“On behalf of the National Ambulance Service (OMSZ) I can say that we are truly grateful to Hankook for this donation. Our duty often includes saving lives, so there is a lot at risk. I believe that the tyres provided by Hankook will significantly ease our everyday operations and will result in us carrying out our tasks faster and more effectively.” says István Mártai, Director General of OMSZ.
