Dunlop OE on North American Mazda6
Last week Bridgestone reported its Turanza T001 would be fitted to the new Mazda6 in markets outside of North America. Dunlop Tires in the US has also announced the original equipment supply of its tyres to the Mazda6. The new ‘2014’ model (which despite its name will go on sale early next year) will come equipped with the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 in size P225/45R19. Dunlop is claiming exclusive fitment with this size, which indicates the supply deal covers the North American market only.
According to Mazda, the new Mazda6 was designed to be a game-changer in the mid-size vehicle segment. An adaptation of Mazda’s Takeri concept car that was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in November 2011, the new model incorporates the manufacturer’s ‘kodo’ design language. Kodo is Japanese for ‘soul of motion’, and Mazda says the design theme is inspired by the smooth power and agility of the cheetah. “So this car design has a sporty flair that expresses motion when you look at the car, provoking an emotional response from your first impression,” writes the car maker regarding the Mazda6 on its UK website.
“Mazda and Dunlop share a passion for style, quality, innovation and performance,” said Garth Ely, director of brand marketing for the Goodyear, Dunlop and Kelly brands in North America. “So, Mazda’s choice of Dunlop tyres for the all-new Mazda6 is great reflection of the character of the Dunlop brand.”
Dunlop describes the SP Sport 5000 as a “stylish, high-performance all-season tyre” that offers “confident traction and a smooth, quiet ride.” The tyre maker adds that the asymmetrical tread pattern on the SP Sport 5000 “helps deliver superb dry and wet handling, while a high-performance tread compound provides enhanced grip and control in a range of driving conditions.” Jointless Band Technology is said to help maintain the tyre’s shape, enabling smooth performance at highway speeds.
