Scorpion Winter lands top category marks in TÜV test
Pirelli shares news of the full marks its Scorpion Winter received for certain tests conducted by TÜV SÜD Automotive. The Italian manufacturer’s tyre was pitted against four major rivals, and is said to have scored 100 per cent in the test’s snow handling, traction and braking categories.
The Scorpion Winter was launched earlier this year and has been designed to fit modern SUVs and CUVs, with particular emphasis placed upon the high-end segment. Pirelli says the tyre “provides an important contribution to the drivers’ safety as it guarantees maximum stability and control in snow, wet and dry conditions.” The tyre maker believes the Scorpion Winter is destined to become the market reference product and represents a technological breakthrough in terms of overall performances; Pirelli lists outstanding grip on snow, excellent braking and handling, lower noise and rolling resistance as the main benefits the tyre delivers.
Of particular significance for Pirelli is the snow braking test result; it notes that while the Scorpion Winter scored 100 per cent in this category, its rivals only averaged 93.9 per cent. “We knew we had a fantastic product with the new Pirelli Scorpion Winter tyre and these latest results registered by TÜV SÜD only highlight the excellent product that we now have on sale,” commented Pirelli UK managing director, Dominic Sandivasci.
“Many people have a preconception that cold weather tyres are only suitable for driving in snow but this is largely untrue, they are beneficial in a vast array of wintery conditions including ice, heavy rain, and cold temperatures,” Sandivasci added. “Cold weather tyres such as the Pirelli Scorpion Winter offer drivers improved grip thanks to their unique tread pattern design and the ability of the compound to remain flexible at temperatures below seven degrees Celsius.”
