Pirelli death no crime, says police

Criminal activity has been ruled out in the investigation into the death of Pirelli employee George Falder. Tests show that the 48-year old employee at the tyre maker’s Carlisle factory was not assaulted before he died inside one of the plant’s autoclaves.

Despite declaring Falder’s death was not a criminal act, Cumbria Police say that even after speaking to around 50 people the circumstances surrounding what occurred on 30 September remain unexplained; an investigation will continue on behalf of the coroner.

“Mr Falder’s tragic death has had a real impact on all his family, friends and colleagues. His family have been kept informed throughout our investigation and are being supported during this terrible time,” commented Det Ch Insp Mike Forrester. “Our investigation will now continue on behalf of the coroner and we will continue to assist the Health and Safety Executive as they continue their own inquiries.”
