Metzeler Tourance Next tyres to take Intermot bow
Metzeler has announced that its new sport touring Tourance Next tyres will debut on the BMW R 1200 GS at international motorcycle, scooter and bicycle show, Intermot, which runs from 3 to 7 October in Cologne, Germany. Metzeler has been a BMW development partner for its GS line since 1980 with street enduro products and since 1999 with its Tourance-branded tyres. The Tourance Next is the third generation of the range and was specifically designed for the latest generation of street enduro and adventure touring bikes. The tyre is original equipment on the BMW R 1200 GS in sizes 120/70 R19 M/C and the 170/60 R17 M/C, having been developed in cooperation with the Bavarian manufacturer.
Metzeler says the Tourance Next “sets the new standard for the segment” in terms of wet grip and safety. It has developed new front and rear compounds, as well as a new groove arrangement to complement each other. The structure and profiles of the Tourance Next were designed for large new concept enduro bikes with particular attention to stability at high speeds and with the bike loaded down with top box and passenger. The profiles were designed to absorb bumps in the asphalt to provide better interaction with the ABS and braking system too. The resistant carcass creates a rigidity which translates into greater and easier handling of the bike, Metzeler says.
The bike tyre manufacturer says the combination and interaction of the tread and compounds result in a significant mileage improvement over its Tourance predecessors.
The Tourance Next will be available from the beginning of 2013 in 120/70 R 19 MC 60V and 170/60 R17 72V as original equipment on the latest addition to the BMW family. In the aftermarket additional sizes will include:

• 110/80 R 19 M/C 59V,
• and 90/90 – 21 M/C 54V for the front;
