‘Irregular Geometry’ concerns behind Yokohama recall
Yokohama Tire Corporation is recalling certain Yokohama Avid Touring S radials in the US due to “irregular geometry in the casing turn up area above the tire bead in the lower sidewall.” The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a notice on the recall, which covers 215/65R16 98T SL size tyres produced between February and April 2009. In all, Yokohama reports that only 10,669 tyres are affected.
NHTSA said the “irregular geometry may lead to a lower sidewall crack resulting in a rapid loss of tyre inflation.”
