Goodyear works to improve young driver safety
Goodyear and the European Driving Schools Association (EFA) have announced a joint collaboration, to increase awareness for safe driving among young drivers and address this in the training for youngsters on the road. EFA represents the interest of 25 driving school associations from 24 European countries.
The cooperation comes as Goodyear prepares to release its 2012 Road Safety Survey, into the behaviour and beliefs of young drivers. This is a truly extensive piece of research across 16 markets (15 European countries and South Africa), and provides some interesting insights into the attitudes of youth on the road and reveals a need for further training and support in a several areas.
Goodyear Corporate Communications Director, EMEA, Jens Völmicke, said, “It is important for us to be able to share these insights with the very people who are responsible for driving education across Europe. Young drivers are involved in a disproportionate number of accidents and we are delighted to be collaborating with the EFA to help make them more confident and safer drivers.”
The Goodyear study surveyed 6400 drivers under the age of 25 across Europe and South Africa, investigating not just driving habits, but how they are linked to training, general worries, and relationships with their car and tyres. The data will help Goodyear and EFA to better identify the areas for improvement where greater training is needed. With this cooperation both partners aim for better training of young drivers on the road and a greater awareness of road safety. Goodyear plans to release detailed findings in each of the markets in the coming weeks.
Gerhard von Bressensdorf, President of the European Driving Schools Association e. V. (EFA) commented, “Goodyear has extensive knowledge on many aspects of road safety and we look forward to our cooperation in supporting our EFA members by delivering targeted information to young drivers.”
