Goodyear advises drivers to prepare for winter
As part of the launch of the Goodyear Ultragrip 8 Performance in September, Goodyear advised motorists – especially those driving performance vehicles – that fitting winter tyres is the best way to prepare for the forthcoming winter. According to the Met Office, 366.8mm of rain fell across the UK up to 29 August showed. And what’s more the latest figures follow a record breakingly wet April, and an April to June period that was also the wettest recorded in the UK.
All this, says Goodyear, means the UK should start to prepare for what could be a bad winter. The company’s advice is that – as well as any household checks you may care to make – there are several things that can be done on a car. These include checking screen wash and ensuring anti-freeze is included and that you have a ‘winter survival pack’ in the boot of the car. You could even switch to winter tyres, company representatives suggest, demonstrating the company’s adoption of British understatement when it comes to selling winter tyres in the UK.
They don’t want to scare anyone off, but the company does believe in the benefits of – especially when it comes to high performance motoring – of changing rubber in this climate during the colder months. According to the company, something about this strategy is indeed working and more and more motorists are said to be making the change to winter tyres year-on-year, with the winter tyre market in the UK reportedly growing 242.6 per cent between 2010/2011.
Kate Rock, consumer and brand PR manager for Goodyear said: “We have seen a considerable increase in demand for winter tyres over the past few years and the market is continually growing. Many motorists are now fitting winter tyres and our award winning UltraGrip range is one of the most popular on the market.”
“Our latest addition to our range is the new UltraGrip 8 Performance, specifically developed to deliver solid performance on slush, snow and on icy roads; the tyre was developed on the basis of extensive consumer insight research and ongoing analysis of winter road and traffic realities across Europe. The results of this research showed that there was a significant demand for solid handling, braking and grip capabilities in a tyre, building on consumer concerns over vehicle control in snow.
“It was these results that focused our development of the tyre. All-in-all, the tyre was developed to ensure it could function in an often varying winter environment which is very prevalent within the UK.”
