Bespoke Pirelli tyres for McLaren supercar
Good news for owners of McLaren's MP4-12C production car – Pirelli has developed bespoke versions of the P Zero and P Zero Corsa tyres, for road and track use, respectively, for the supercar. The tyres are the result of collaboration between Pirelli researchers and McLaren engineers at Woking.
“Thanks to the experience gained by Pirelli in Formula One, as well as other high-profile motorsport championships, Pirelli’s engineers developed tyres in record time that are capable of meeting the needs of three distinctive characteristics that define the new MP4-12C,” Pirelli stated. Those are: torque, suspension response and power-to-weight ratio. The MP4-12C has a roughly 600-horsepower, McLaren M838T twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The engine redlines at 8500 rpm; 80 per cent of the engine’s torque is available at 2000 rpm, according to McLaren. The Frank Stephenson-designed car weighs 3,084 pounds.
