P Zero tops Evo tyre test
The Pirelli P Zero has taken top honours in Evo magazine’s annual tyre test. The Pirelli tyre and its rivals from Continental, Dunlop, Goodyear, Hankook, Kumho, Michelin, Nexen and Vredestein were put through their paces on a circuit in the south of France, where wet handling, dry handling, braking and aquaplaning were assessed, followed by a drive on a mixed road route designed to replicate real world conditions.
A size 225/45 R17 94Y XL P Zero was used in the test, and as was the case for each tyre involved, it was fitted to a standard Audi A3 1.8 TFSI producing 168 horsepower. Pirelli comments that its tyre proved quickest around the circuit in the wet handling test and also scored top marks in the dry handling test. The P Zero won the road route test as well, scoring 100 per cent.
Evo declared the P Zero a comfortable overall winner, saying: “There’s no doubt about our winner. The Pirelli P Zero puts together a consistent and convincing set of objective test results and subjective scores to take the overall win by a good margin.” The magazine also described the P Zero as “the only tyre to bring sparkle to the test car’s steering,” and concluded: “In a crowded, very competitive segment of the market, the Pirelli is clearly the best.”
“We’re delighted to have the qualities of the P Zero tyre – the foundation for our premium range of products – recognised by such a prestigious publication as Evo,” commented Pirelli UK managing director Dominic Sandivasci. “Ultra High Performance and quality are in our corporate DNA, and this has been confirmed again by the P Zero’s winning result against all of its rivals.”
