Buyers found for closure-threatened Beaurepaires outlets
Goodyear Dunlop has reportedly sold the commercial tyre component of its Beaurepaires fast fit network in New Zealand. Fairfax News NZ shares that the commercial tyre service centres in the country’s North Island have been acquired by Carters Tyres, and by Tyre General and General Tyres in the South Island. The Beaurepaires retail operation will remain in Goodyear Dunlop’s hands.
According to Campbell Gough, director of sales and marketing at Goodyear Dunlop Tyres ANZ, the sale represents “an extremely positive outcome;” in June, the company said it may close 24 commercial tyre fast fit outlets in New Zealand, a measure that threatened the jobs of 219 employees.
In a statement, Gough confirmed that only one outlet would be closed and most of the 219 affective staff would be retained by the centres’ new owners. “Carters Tyres, Tyre General and General Tyres are all highly experienced operators in the commercial tyre industry and we look forward to very close strategic partnerships with them going forward,” said Gough. “Aside from different store livery, national fleets will continue to receive the same nationwide service they enjoyed with Beaurepaires.
“Beaurepaires will now refocus on growing its position as a market leader in consumer tyres; servicing passenger cars, 4WDs and light trucks through our country-wide network of over 70 retail stores,” he added.
