Bridgestone all-weather tyres equipped for all seasons
During a visit to Bridgestone’s Sweden Proving Ground earlier in the year, Tyres & Accessories drove in temperatures way below freezing in some of the most extreme conditions in Europe, using the manufacturer’s current Blizzak LM-30 winter rubber, and the prototype of its successor to be, the LM-32, which remains in development for the moment, as well as a comparative summer weather tyre, which behaved about as well as one would expect on heavy snow. There was, however, an intermediate all-weather tyre option, which the company is particularly focusing on in Oceanic climates such as that found in the UK.
Fluctuating weather conditions can produce up to four seasons of weather within one day, as charted by the MET Office this year – even, somewhat distressingly, in the middle of the summer season. Erratic and unpredictable weather patterns can disrupt motorists’ daily commutes and long-distance travel planning and as a result it is crucial for drivers to use tyres that are able to withstand whatever the skies bring.
Bridgestone believes its A001 All-Weather Tyre is the best option for UK conditions, offering drivers comfort knowing their tyres can handle any inclement weather patterns seen throughout the year. The A001 All-Weather Silica compound allows for confident handling year round, the manufacturer says, while maintaining long tyre life and dry performance. In wet weather, specially-designed lens-shaped blocks help lessen turbulence and evacuate water to reduce the risk of hydroplaning.
Icy or slippery roads pose minimal problem for the A001 with its high-density siping pattern which provides ample edge effect for safe handling and breaking on winding roads and motorways. The tread pattern has been adjusted for low noise and maximum road contact to increase control for a safer journey when travelling on surfaces that may be dangerous.
Andy Dingley, communications manager at Bridgestone UK, said: “Bridgestone’s A001 tyres represent our continued efforts to recognise driving complications brought on by varying weather patterns in the UK. Our versatile All-Weather tyres cater to the needs of our UK drivers who want to feel safe and secure when on the open road, whatever the weather brings.”
