Strong July for UK CV market
The UK commercial vehicle market for July proved extremely buoyant, with new registrations up 8.1 per cent over July 2011, reaching 22,353. Van registrations rose 10.2 per cent to 18,913 units in July, and the rolling year figure was stable (-0.1 per cent), with 248,452 registrations.
Truck registrations dipped 2.2 per cent at 3,440 in the month, however, the rolling year was up 22.4 per cent to 47,769 registrations.
Said Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive: “The commercial vehicle market received a welcome boost in July, rising 8.1 per cent in the month, fuelled by strong van registrations. Down 2.2 per cent in the month, truck registrations showed signs of stabilising after almost two years of consistent recovery from recessionary lows.
“The van and rigid truck markets still have a way to go to hit pre-recession levels, but artic volumes have grown since October 2010 to reach levels not seen since 2008.”
