Pikes Peak record breaker on HRE wheels
When Rhys Millen finished his journey through the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb course in a record time of 9:46, he ran on Hankook tyres – and these tyres were wrapped around HRE Performance Wheels. In congratulating Millen on his win, the German wheel manufacturer notes that he and his team have ”been relying upon HRE Performance Wheels as their trusted partner of choice for years.”
On th e 12.42 mile course, drivers have to race constantly uphill, through more than 150 turns and overcome nearly 1,500 altitude metres. Permanent gear shifting together with the extreme conditions of desert – such as 45° Celsius at the start up to thin mountain air at the finish above the snow line – push drivers and equipment to their limits.
Wheels play a vital role in this, comments HRE. Not only must they get the enormous power of the race cars (some boasting more than 900hp) onto the concrete, but also be as light as possible while at the same time providing maximum strength for the harsh road conditions.
