Michelin reaches 30 million mark at Ballymena
Production at Michelin’s Ballymena plant has passed the 30 million mark; management and staff at the factory marked this milestone on 30 August. The milestone also coincided with the start of production of a new size in the X MultiWay 3D range.
The Ballymena factory, the only factory manufacturing truck tyres in Northern Ireland, produced its first tyre on 3 December 1969 and today has an annual capacity of 1.4 million truck and bus tyres. Exports account for more than 70 per cent of total production, with North America the chief international recipient of Ballymena-made tyres. Rubber compound used at Michelin’s Stoke-on-Trent and Dundee plants is also processed in Ballymena.
