Mercedes-Benz Axors on Pirelli route
The route between Pirelli’s UK facilities in Burton-on-Trent and Carlisle is well trodden by Derby-based haulier ATL, and the company has just put three of its newest vehicle acquisitions to work on the company’s most arduous contract. The Mercedes-Benz Axor 2543 tractor units are consistently fully laden and rack up 8,600km a week carrying raw materials and finished tyres between Pirelli’s locations.
Worked around the clock, seven days a week, the Pirelli contract is covered by a team of four drivers. The units will cover 445,000km in their first year. Brothers Peter and Joey Ascott, joint managing directors of the family-owned firm, and Peter say: “This is very demanding work, but we have total confidence in the Axor and in the support from Mertrux and Mercedes-Benz. Having run 18-tonne Axor rigids, we know Mercedes-Benz trucks to be strong and reliable, while the dealer has always looked after us very well.”
In addition to its Derby headquarters, where it has a 470,000 sq ft warehouse, ATL recently opened a new depot in Carlisle.
