Jaguar Land Rover goes 24 hours
The popularity of cars such as the Range Rover Evoque has led Jaguar Land Rover to introduce 24-hour working at its Halewood production plant. 1000 new jobs were created to support the new third shift at the plant, which has trebled its workforce in the past three years and staff from the first night shift clocked off on the morning of Tuesday 14 August 2012.
Jaguar Land Rover operations director Richard Else told the BBC that the plant manufactures both the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Freelander 2 models 75 per cent of are exported to more than 170 markets worldwide. The UK reportedly remains the company’s largest single market, but there is also strong demand from China and other emerging markets.
The addition of the night shift takes the site’s workforce to 4,500 triple what it was three years ago.
