GB road traffic declines
The Department for Transport has released statistics concerning British road traffic levels for the second quarter of this year. The statistics are divided into vehicle types (cars, light vans, HGVs and other vehicles – this latter category includes motorcycles).
All motor vehicle traffic was 1.2 per cent lower in the second quarter of 2012 than in the second quarter of 2011 at 74.7 billion vehicle miles. Light goods vehicle traffic was the only vehicle type to experience growth in traffic volumes in the second quarter of 2012 compared with the same period in 2011, increasing by 1.5 per cent. Traffic for all other vehicles types fell between these two quarters.
Traffic fell on all road types in the second quarter of 2012 compared with the second quarter of 2011, with the exception of rural ‘A’ roads, which increased by 0.5 per cent.
