Former Bridgestone NZ factory site sold
Bridgestone has sold its 11 hectare former factory site in Christchurch, New Zealand for an undisclosed sum. Production ended at the Papanui factory in late 2009 and the land was placed on sale last year, minus a 1.3 hectare chunk given to Christchurch City Council for flood protection.
The property has been purchased by Environ Projects Ltd, and speculation exists as to what will replace the Bridgestone plant. Although the site offers enough room for more than 200 homes – a valuable asset in a city whose housing stock was partially depleted by last year’s earthquake – it is believed the land will be subdivided for use as an industrial estate.
