Continental, Alliance managers to steer South Africa recycling scheme
The Recycling and Economic Development Initiative of South Africa (REDISA) has appointed Continental SA sales director Eddie Jordaan and Alliance Tyre Africa managing director Piet Swart to key positions within the fledgling recycling scheme. Both men take up their posts with REDISA on 1 September.
Jordaan, who has clocked up some 43 years of experience within South Africa’s tyre industry, will be responsible for the roll-out and implementation of the REDISA waste tyre plan. Jordaan considers this a natural move and one that will give him the opportunity of giving back to the country and community. “I’ve been with Continental for 19 years and in the industry for 43 years, so I have seen many changes over the years,” he commented. “One thing that all role players agree on is that South Africa needs to dispose of waste tyres in a responsible way. The REDISA plan does exactly what is necessary. Now, I’m excited to be involved with the next chapter when new changes emanating from our industry will positively affect local communities and the country as a whole.”
Swart, who joined Alliance five years ago after 27 years’ service at Continental, will head up REDISA’s recycling technology division. He is a founding member of the South African Tyre Recycling Process (SATRP) and served on the SATRP board until he left Continental. “REDISA is what the country needs”, he said. “And I’m joining REDISA because this is what I believe in. For me, the role will be hugely challenging but most importantly fulfilling.”
