Bridgestone combines sporting interests with MotoGP golf tournament
Bridgestone Motorsport has held its inaugural Bridgestone Golf Performance Challenge at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, next to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where MotoGP’s Indianapolis Grand Prix takes place this weekend. Four golfing teams led by NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Colin Edwards, Monster Yamaha Tech3’s Andrea Dovizioso, CAME IodaRacing project’s Danilo Petrucci and James Ellison from Paul Bird Motorsport, all headed out to the driving range and then onto the course for a three-hole golfing contest.
Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta and Hiroshi Yamada (Manager, Bridgestone Motorsport Department) joined in the pre-race weekend activity with the MotoGP riders, along with members of the local Indianapolis media and representatives from Bridgestone Americas and Bridgestone Golf.
Edwards, a keen golfer, successfully guided his team to victory after a closely fought contest, with all the teams ending the challenge within one shot of each other. As the head of the winning group, Edwards won a full set of Bridgestone Golf clubs with his team-mates each taking away a specially selected Bridgestone Golf Driver.
Colin Edwards – NGM Mobile Forward Racing: “It’s always nice to start a race weekend with a little bit of golf, a bit of relaxing before the storm starts – speaking of which the rain did come in! It was fun, I had a really good time, and to be able to play with Mike from Bridgestone Golf was great. I used to play about four to five hours a day, every day for about ten years, but now I spend more time with my kids than on the golf course. It was good that my boy came today, he wants to start playing after seeing Daddy hit a few!”
Hiroshi Yamada – manager, Bridgestone Motorsport Department: “Congratulations to Colin’s team for winning our Bridgestone Golf Performance Challenge at the Brickyard Crossing. We were lucky that the thunderstorm just about held off long enough for us to complete the three holes!
“Thank you to all of the participants, the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, and to our Bridgestone Americas and Bridgestone Golf colleagues for making it possible. Today was a great success and we look forward to holding another Bridgestone Golf Performance Challenge next year.”
