Pirelli doubling ‘speed of evolution’

In an interview with Institutional Investor magazine, which covered topics ranging from BRIC region outlook to the euro crisis, Pirelli CEO Marco Tronchetti Provera shared that the number of new products the tyre maker intends to introduce in the next few years will represent a doubling of its recent programme.

“We’re going to launch 18 new product platforms — winter tyres, SUV tyres, high-speed tyres, green tyres — in the next five years,” Tronchetti Provera stated. “In the past decade we launched 16, so we are doubling our speed of evolution.”

The CEO also expressed his confidence in the continued fast growth of the premium tyre segment, an area where he said Pirelli holds 12 per cent market share.
