Peter Becker appointed head of Kumho’s European R&D
Former Apollo Vredestein head of R&D, Peter Becker, has taken on the role of research and development director at Kumho Tyres. Becker’s key task in his new position is the setting up of Kumho’s European Technical Center in Mörfelden-Walldorf, Germany, the tyre maker’s replacement for its now-closed centre in Birmingham. The 53-year old will lead Kumho Tyres’ activities in the areas of tyre technology, research and product development and work closely with Kumho’s design teams in Korea, China and North America. The team working under Becker will focus on developing optimal products for the European replacement and original equipment markets.
“Kumho Tyres is a globally established tyre manufacturer,” commented Peter Becker. “I look forward to this new challenge at Kumho Tyres and am certain that my experience and knowledge will aid Kumho Tyres in the future development of even more competitive tyres for the replacement market and original equipment supply. The establishment of a new development centre is a terrific and interesting challenge.”
“In Peter Becker we have taken on our ideal candidate for the set up and expansion of our new European research and development centre,” added so Y.N. Byun, president and managing director of Kumho Tire Europe GmbH. “With his experience and know-how, he will give valuable impetus to the replacement and original equipment markets through the optimisation of existing and the development of new products. We hope to reach our growth plans for Europe even more quickly with him.”
Becker’s work in the sector began 23 years ago with Dunlop, and the positions he worked in include research engineer and head of indoor tests and tyre characteristics. Between 2001 and 2008 he was responsible for passenger car tyre development and led Dunlop’s research and development centre in Hanau, Germany.
