Navistar recalls Lonestar trucks due to wheel fatigue issue
The US National Highway Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released a recall notice from North American truck manufacturer Navistar. According to the company, the problem is that “over time, due to corrosion and fatigue, the wheels may crack, resulting in possible wheel separation from the vehicle.”
According to the notice, Navistar is recalling certain 2010 – 2011 model year International Lonestar vehicles. The models in question were manufactured from 29 January 2009, through to 21 February 2011 and were equipped with the Harley Davidson option package with feature codes 27DRV and 28DRV.
Only around 40 vehicles are said to be affected with the majority of these having been sold in the US and Canada. Although one was exported outside this area, this is unlikely to be a problem in the UK or Europe, however the recall does raise the topic of wheel fatigue and, for some, the question of standardisation and testing in this area.
